Out Of A Coma

September 17, 2012 Leave a comment

We’re back …. or at least out of a coma.

Slightly after our little stint of “help” from the folks at Sophisticated Pittsburgh on upping our number of blog writers, they in fact lost many of theirs.  In other words people got real jobs, go married, or just disappeared of the face of the earth at SP.  As a result, we are coming back to our original self.

So, about our original self. The blog experimentally started in 2005, and was moved to .mac via the Apple iWeb.  We started writing around the time that PittGirl, CafeWitness, and others started and gained one of the top growing blog rankings ending up with 2000 readers per day, across 15 countries while on the .mac site.

That actually scared us, considering the amount of vomit we spewed out in those days along with the other rant blogs.  I’m not sure we’ll be as harsh these days, but we’ll try.

BTW – while we were hosting on .mac, Apple kindly asked us to move our site due to their product not being originally made for the amount of throughput we were getting.

So, around Spring of 2008 we moved to WordPress.

The Weasel is back, and we will be blowing word chunks as far as possible.

Cheers

Changes To SWB

Our New Owners

Yup, we being taken over.

This is for the good.  After being inactive for a while, another site has inquired about taking over Screaming Weasel.  There will be changes, it will retain some of  the sarcasm, but will lose some of the “rantiness”  and negativity that it had when it started around 2005-2006 and rant blogs were the fad – although we will gripe a little through it,  and SWB will be the occasional guest writer.

We think you’ll like it … and what it will present about Pittsburgh.

If you want to check out our new owners, Click Here

Here is their future WordPress Blog (Click Here)

Please welcome Karyon Nightly (sophisticatedpgh) as  the new main writer.

Going Back To The Roots

March 24, 2010 Leave a comment

There’s nothing like going back to the roots of something (even if there is construction in the way).  Ours is Crazy Mocha in SouthSide Works sitting with one of their huge peanut butter cookies (it won’t be there long).

Sounds fattening, and strange to be conversing with a cookie, right?  So be it …

… and some things are meant to just be strange.

Yep … sum mor thoughtz for the strangez. (no those aren’t typos … their spelled wrong for absolutely no reason at all, except to maybe tick of my old high school English teach if she’s still alive).

This morning I looked at one of my dogs and asked “Do you understand anything we say, other than ‘treat!’?””

She responded by giving me a “You are way to stupid to even start comprehending what I know” look.

Makes you wonder.

I still think dogs are just waiting for the human race to extinguish itself so they can have the planet.  Maybe those goofballs that say dogs are just external shells for tiny aliens waiting to take over are actually privy to information the rest of us choose to ignore.  Hmmmm ……

Well, anyway, going back to your roots makes you thing of such strange things as above, and the following:

  • If I write something completely insane and completely lacking in any journalistic capability …. why do more people read it?
  • If I at the end of a posting I state “you need professional help if you take any part of this posting seriously” … why do people actually think they need to take the posting seriously and they DON’T need professional help?
  • If I write something that an actual journalist thinks IS decent writing … why do people not read it?
  • If I actually find a way to read my pet’s thoughts … will I find out that they actually hate me and are only sucking up for treats?
  • Did the tadpoles I brought in for the winter going into hiding or actually commit suicide because I put them in my step-daughters room?
  • If I turn a light switch on, is there actual light? … or is it just my well trained imagination making me think I see light?
  • Is life really life, or just life?
  • If the gate stops working at the parking garage, will they get mad at me for driving through it to get out?
  • Was anyone ever annoying enough that they were forced to “walk the plank” off one of the Gateway Clippers?

PS – Strange, just strange.

Is anything worth our time?

cafewitness1Capture from Cafe Witness – click it to go to the site. SWB popped over the Justin Kownacki’s Cafe Witness blog and found another great post by him on our “rapidly eroding attention spans”. SWB agrees when he points out that you can no longer get away with mediocrity. We think in addition to that, people are actually getting more passionate about what they believe, read, and do. He also points out that “the gatekeepers” of the media, as he calls them are quite unhappy about you not being saved from “wasting your time on the inferior and impractical”. Interesting.

This is one of the better articles SWB has seen on the subject, and Justin always has a good view on what’s happening (and sometimes falling) around him.

PS – If you are a mediocre person, that means you are probably becoming a minority of sorts and most likely qualify to join a special interest group and get some sort of government funding. See – there is a positive side to everything.

Goodbye Burgh Blog … and PittGirl

I wanted to “officially” say goodbye to The Burgh Blog and PittGirl. In my opinion this is one of the better blogs I’ve run across simply because it was done without influence from others, it was done with fun, and it wasn’t done for income from Google Ads.

Goodbye and enjoy life ….. I’m sure there will be many that will imitate your ways in flattery (or not in flattery – depending on how you see it).
