Art Art Art All Night 2011

SP did the early thing this year. Last year our tech went a little later while covering more of the entertainment portion of the event for another website  We wanted a chance to check out the artwork without pushing through – although when you aren’t covering for an article, that really is a required part of the Art All Night experience.  If this was your first time – only next time will you experience the true feel of Art All Night … the fact that even when it is in the same spot, it completely transforms that spot from what it was the year priors event.  That didn’t change this year ….. Art All Night 2011 – the wait is over!!!

The Wait Is Over!!!
This is our traditional call out for this time of year.

Yes, it’s getting close, and time to start thinking about Art All Night (click on the logo to go to AAN’s website).

Why? … and for those of you that are new to Pittsburgh, you ask, “umm, OK, why??”

Art All Night, through it’s persistence has really become the official announcement to the start of the Spring/Summer art season in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.  You know spring is coming when you start hearing the volunteer calls for Art All night.  You know spring is here when you start seeing those Art All Night “calls for artists”.  You know one of the main qualities that defines this city is now in full bloom when the first person walks into Art All Night … an sees the defining artistic creativity of the residents of our city.  There is nothing better during this time of year to show you a visual definition of “Pittsburgh”.  Art All Night has become a staple of the area holding it’s artists together every year.  Click Here to read the rest of the article on Sophisticated Pittsburgh.

A Long Awaited Poem

September 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Well, we haven’t posted a poem for a long time (along with anything else), so we figured it was long over due.

We’ll go for the “weepy whiny looking inside myself for possible self analyzing while reading the ’emotional porn’ story make myself feel better” ones.

That’s why it’s getting stuck under “blah blah blah …… etc etc etc”.  I guess it could go under “Thoughts For The Strange” too.

—————————————————–

Looking out at the life in the mirror,

reaching into a reflective life.

The realizations of all the misty hues

remind me that I’ll always pay my dues.

Trees in the background crying,

they’re surrounded by all of the voices lying.

Noises of all the discolored untruths,

reflecting twisted minds and floating views.

Tainted waters have all but clouded my dreams,

turning happiness into the lesser means.

For the children that once were the future,

an end of hope now created by the misty hues.

Ok . that was crappy …. but what can you do in 3 minutes?

SouthSide Works Exposed 2010!

July 15, 2010 Leave a comment

We’re using the really old SSW Exposed web banner, because, simply, we’re to lazy to pull down the new one and crop it.

That’s just the way us bloggers are.

Past the useless crap, and on to the good stuff:

It’s Exposed weekend again. Click Here for the info.

Check it out … Carrie is bringing in the artists again, and Pam from SSW has done another excellent job of mixing up the entertainment.

So, if you have nothing better to do this weekend, get down to Exposed and check out the artists and bands. If you have something better to do (daughter’s wedding, kid’s birthday, etc) nix it and get down to Exposed anyway. I’ll be there (my cousin is showing, and I’m working with Pam on some other stuff) – so if I don’t make an appearance, I’ll hear about it from someone. Nobody said being a weasel was easy.

If you are looking for a breaking during the outside gigs, stop in at Tusca on Friday during Happy Hour for half priced drinks and a Happy Hour menu in the bar area.  I’ll be there spinning the background tunes.  Help us out by making friends with “Tusca Tapas” and liking “Tusca Global Tapas” on Facebook.

See Ya At Exposed!!! ….. and buy something besides that cheap $3 Steelers bracelet – artists occasionally like to be able to eat something other than dollar store mac and cheese.

PS – Contrary to popular belief, artists have real jobs.

Art All Night 2010

The post icon is a little larger than normal – that’s because this is a really important time of the year.

At least in Pittsburgh and Lawrenceville.

It’s ART ALL NIGHT time!!!!!

SWB doesn’t have an entry, but Pittsburgh By Mini Cam does, so please check us out.  We have no idea where we will be placed, so that’ll force ya to look at all the other great artists at the show – last year it was over a thousand.

The other great thing is that you can to go through the old Iron City plant and maybe check out that place you’ve bought from for so long.

This show, in our opinion, is on of the best ways we have seen to showcase all of Pittsburgh’s artists freely and openly without politics or preferences.  Anyone can enter one piece of art, and anyone can view all of the art.  Every year we give major kudos to those that created and are now running the show (along with the tons of volunteers).

Along with being great for art … Art All Night IS the perfect example of how Pittsburgh works together to get something new and exciting started.  It shows that whether it’s about manufacturing or cultural activities, we are innovators in all ways.

So attend …. you may see one or your friend’s artwork there (or hopefully your own).

PS – Art All Night continually inspires a ton of other things in our city … so SUPPORT IT!

Captured logo from the Art All Night site – click on it to go there. It’s not here yet, but it’s getting close to the time to start thinking about Pittsburgh and Lawrenceville’s biggest and best art event.

That’s right ….. Art All Night.

They also added a ton of online stuff, so you can check out Art All Night all year long.

This year it is scheduled for April 24-th to 25th ad some place in Lawrenceville. Maybe SWB will take the time this year and submit something in. We were thinking about submitting an actual Screaming Weasel last year, but we figured that the only ways we could get that to work consistently over the whole weekend would have ended up turning Art All Night into a full blown PETA protest.

Having that said, it’s time to get your artwork ready, consider volunteering (it has become a huge event), and prepare yourself mentally for the best art showing in the ‘Burgh!

-SWB

PS – Since you’ve probably used your imagination a little now with our mention of submitting an actual screaming weasel … let us assure you there will be no harm to any animals in the production of our artwork.

BTW – Art All Night is now under SWB Recommends!

Review: Art All Night 2009

Art all night is over, and it was another successful year.

The crew was on top of everything from checking in, entertainment, crowd control, and checkout. This year really proved how they have brought the operations of a large show into being an art form in itself.

As far as the artists this year, SWB believes this is one of the better years for creativity. We noticed far less “copy cat” art and a whole bunch of originality. Everything from a Mr Handy hanging robot to a full “army guy” battle scene was available for view. The table sized chess set was probably our favorite. Well done to everyone from SWB!!

The scene outside of AAN was amazing. The night was perfect for the event, the space was wonderful, and the artwork captivating. The crowd just hanging out added the perfect aura to AAN, and made you already look forward to next year.

Anyways, here is a few pics for yinz to check out:
