Stupidity, 9/11, and the Quran Burning

After 2001, I never thought I’d put the words “Stupidity, 9/11, and the Quran Burning” all in once sentence.  I was wrong.

I also thought that never in this country would one man’s selfishness for his own free speech cause him to position our country to where it looks like Americans are inviting themselves into a holy war with the Middle East. I was wrong.

I also thought that it would take more than one man to make American look like the picture that others paint when they criticise us. I was wrong.

What’s wrong with the fact that this minister wants to burn the Quran in protest of the radicals he believes it represents?  From a a free speech point of view – nothing.

Is it this minister’s right to voice his views via his free speech rights in this country? Yes.

Is is his right to indirectly cause harm to others via his use of his free speech rights? **NO**

That is this issue with this.  It’s not that people believe he does not have the right to do what he wants to do, but the free speech rights we have in this country (and the same rights that other countries are trying to acquire) come with great responsibility.

For the simple minded – that means that you have to be responsible enough in the use of your free speech rights to not put others in danger, get them killed, or cause unrepairable damage to a society as a whole.  Terry Jones has stepped over those lines and abused his free speech rights.  Sadly to other countries this becomes a reflection of Americans as a whole.

So, our vote is to keep our free speech rights and shut down Terry Jones from doing what he is doing.  If not, there is a good chance that he could start a holy war with the Middle East that will never end, and also initiate a domino set of actions that will eventually curtail our free speech rights as Americans.

PS – We won’t even offer this guy a “Clueless Award”, we set that for those who have at least a minor inkling of hope ……. but we will say that Terry is a definite candidate for the new set of Dawrin Awards.

This is it … life as you miss it

We all dream of the day when we get to sit on our rocking chairs and watch everyone else stress out and live life … or miss life.

Did you ever take the chance to stop and see what you have missed out on your quest for the golden rocking chair?

Think about it … gotta run to  get the cool job, gotta run to get the kids the hot toys, gotta run to get my boss his dry cleaning.  If you stop for a second, maybe you would realize you are actually on a planet. No … really, that thing you are walking on filled with dirt (and lots of unmentionables) is a planet.  Go visit the Carnegie Science Center … they’ll confirm it.  Honest.

Recently I rented the movie “The Invention Of  Lying“.  It was an interesting movie, because it showed humans as typical self-centered, selfish idiots – even when they didn’t know how to lie. It also showed how clueless and shallow people can be.

OK, it pointed out the high gullibility factor to us too.

The biggest thing it showed though, was how people can go a whole lifetime walking right by anything that matters … simply because that is how it’s always been done.  How many times do you do that yourself?  How many people do you know that have pretty much turned that way of life into a new kind of religion?

Think about it … maybe if we weren’t so “human” there wouldn’t be hatred, greed.  There would be jobs due to no outsourcing to save a buck.  People would be treated fairly, and their skin color, sex, or religion actually would not make a difference to anyone.

But then again, we are human … which makes “The Invention Of Lying” seem more like a documentary than a fictional movie.

PS – I wish I were my dog.

Weekend Days and discrimination

February 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Remember when weekend days were normal?

I mean they actually happened ON weekend days?

K … don’t get it yet?

Years ago (and this may be before you were born), the weekend meant Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. Businesses were even closed on Sundays (forcing you to spend time and actually have to cook for your family).

Now, the weekend is whatever days someone gets of consecutively (if that’s possible anymore).  My weekend days fluctuate between either Mon-Tues, or Tues-Wed.

Anyone care? No?

Well, you should.

Because you have to take your weekends when you can get ’em, you basically give up all of the perks the other “normal” people get (the sales, attending the cool events, getting out of cooking for your “loved ones”, etc).  Look at this new reality closely – it means you are discriminated against simply because you have to work special times to support other people’s needs and greeds.

So, on your behalf, SWB is starting up a new special interest group (everyone else has one, so why shouldn’t we??) … P.A.W.D. – People Against Weekend Discrimination.  We plan on recruiting quite a few local, regional, and national politicians and lobbyists on this one.  Needless special interest groups tend to get the highest APC (active politician count), so we figure the special interest group we are creating is dumb enough to get more of them.

Ya in with us, dudes and dudettes??

PS – This is politically stupid enough to actually take hold, don’t ya think?

School Doesn’t Want Blacks

June 2, 2009 Leave a comment

swbtherantfilesDon’t you just love it when you put on some oldies orsee a vintage car ion the summer and it transports you back to a simpler time in the 50s and 60s that just makes you feel happy?

Then there are claims like this (Click Here to read the article by The Associated Press as appearing on that happen around the summer time transporting you back to a bitter time in the 50s and 60s … and make you say “What the heck were they thinking???”. It also let’s you know racism is still around.   The deal is that Kiski School let go it’s basketball coach because a black basketball team was not “within it’s mission”.  Slightly embarrassing for the coach, don’t you think?  Now, even more embarrassing for the school.  Keep in mind these are still “alleged” claims, but even at that can destroy an establishments reputation quickly.

Temporarily, we’ll award The Kiski School a tentative “Clueless Award” until the rest of the story comes out in the wash.

PS – As a preparatory school, you’d thunk they’d be able to think before they speak.

Kids Busted for Wearing Arab Headgear

February 18, 2009 Leave a comment

If you don’t know what a kaffiyehs, it’s a red-and-white scarves that Arabs wear to as a sign of their Middle Easter Heritage.

Well obviously in Gateway High School, showing your heritage is very offensive. the kids were told to take them off because it symbolizes hate and terrorism. It’s seems the suburbanites have been watching too much TV.

What these kids are doing is about their heritage, not their religion or beliefs.

What the principal is doing is about the same as an Irish boy coming to school in traditional garb and the principal telling him that “that skirt you are wearing is offensive, take it off”.

Nothing like keeping discrimination alive and well and keeping Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas known for that … here is the reference article.

To the parents and students that complained …. get a life. Maybe if you would come out of your boxes for a while and meet these people you would know they are in no way a threat to you.

According to KDKA the students are now allowed to wear their traditional garb. Nothing like a school narrowly missing a major lawsuit and a principal narrowly escaping his own firing.
