International Poetry Forum – a cultural treasure leaving Pittsburgh

sbwnewsitemI know this isn’t your typical SWB posting, but we are into art, and one of the mainstays in the Pittsburgh area is going away. It was started in 1966 and is having it’s last event this Tuesday. That mainstay is The International Poetry Forum. It pulled 300 people in for the first reading and has gone up to 900 people at readings. There have been times when people were actually turned away. The forum attracted some of the best know poets to Pittsburgh to read, and some of the counties elite to hear.

The poetry forum was started by Sam Hazo, so if you have time to stop at the last reading … please do so, he deserves the appreciation for 43 years of hard work.

PS – Contrary to popular belief in some areas of Pittsburgh and suburbs … “Back In Black” by AC/DC is not poetry. Sorry to burst quite a few peoples bubbles.
